Welcome to Emmaus House!
The Community of 2020/21
Attending...CMU, U of M, U of W,
Life has not been dull with 10 students filling the house! "This feels like home" is a comment expressed by both inhabitants and by their guests! How so?
- Smells of good food and delicious treats! (i.e. knowing where our food (meat/veggies) come from, coming home to a 6 pm gourmet meal and candlelight dinner...or fresh baked...whatever... for a 9 pm snack!).
- An academic focus that is respected and supported (i.e. study sessions around the dining room table, living room or in the quiet book nook or bedroom, discussions about paper topics....and mentorship from Rod...)
- Spiritual nurture (i.e. Reflection during house meeting, many...many informal discussions, advent readings, a winter retreat, sharing various worship experiences in local churches)
- Encouragement in work and volunteer endeavours in the community and on campus.
- Fun (i.e. making Salsa together, Fall and Winter retreats out of the Winnipeg "bubble", impromptu game/movie nights, Christmas party - gingerbread "house" creations, skating on the river, and random pranks)
- Hospitality (we welcome visitors and dinner guests)
- Healthy environment...set by a sense of order, cleanliness....and yet relaxed...
- our furry friends (Remy and Elly)....who faithfully and affectionately greet us at the door with "kitty".
- lots of laughter, daily gatherings around the dinner table to share joys and struggles of the day.... late night conversations in the living room....birthday celebrations...and much more...
- Here is an article written about us.... http://www.canadianmennonite.org/stories/‘we’re-not-strangers-anymore'
